T-Minus…

11 days and counting.

Pre-production is crazy. We’re trying to round up extras, get our locations/sets finalized, costumes fitted and appropriate, camera lenses polished and ready to go, songs rehearsed and recorded and a myriad of other things that are on my to-do list (that’s why I’m sitting here writing this blog entry!). There have been some ups and loads of downs and we have to keep plugging away and keep moving forward. These projects take oodles of time, energy, blood, sweat and tears and somehow we manage to come out on the other side. With a few laughs, some good memories and hopefully a lot of new very talented friends whom we can work with in the future. And of course a film which people will want to see.

If you haven’t signed up on our email distribution list yet - now would be a good time!!

One Light

I order you all to sit down immediately and spend 3:35 listening to What Light by Wilco (preferably on headphones) - it just might save your life…Damn that Tweedy can write. The whole new album is just sublime. The right music at the right time - the right story at the right time - everything right on time…

Ay yi yi….

Well, we’re down to the last couple of weeks of pre-production and although it’s an exciting time, it’s also filled with anxiety, stress and the ever present “what are we doing?!?” Filmmaking is always going to be a crazy thing. Trying to get so many people’s lives to mesh at exactly the right and same time is just one of the obstacles that comes along with it. We’ll keep plowing through and hopefully the Gods will smile on us and we’ll come out at the end…still breathing.

tone-deaf musical

Despondency in abundance. Not sure how to proceed. A wheel with a thousand spokes in search of a tread. Overwhelmed. Not sleeping and over-medicating in search of oblivion - if just for a few hours. We’ve bitten off more than we can chew. Again. Always. Forever.

Where to begin?

We’re set up in our new offices; with new toys; with a new script; meeting new actors, technicians and musicians. We have a new website and new deadlines. We have a great adventure ahead of us. We’ve done this before, but not quite like this. We are walking a new road which is full of interesting obstacles & achievements ahead. There will be hard work and late nights, spats and tears and swearing and the urge to throw things out the window. But this is a golden opportunity that we’re ready to embrace.

I think indie filmmaking MUST be like childbirth (not that I’d know). You get excited about it, scared, do it and it’s painful and full of things you can’t even imagine or make up and then it’s done and you are left with a baby – or in this case a snazzy full-color DVD. And you SWEAR you’ll never do it again – yet there you are, a year, 6 months whatever later doing it again and getting all excited about the new adventure.

God Rocks is full of it’s own unique challenges – mostly because it’s a “musical” really and that’s one area we haven’t really dealt with much. No, the actors aren’t breaking into song while washing their car or preparing sushi but there is a lot of original music and bands that are part of this unique equation. It should be fun.

We’ll be posting along as we go. You can check out Jason’s blog, my blog or the general “news” section for what’s happening. Come along for the journey.
